War Stories: Why Fight?

Throughout history, as seen in fiction and non-fiction writing, the reasons for fighting are often much simpler than the wars being fought. Country, family, friends, self-preservation are often the reasons.
The following are excerpts from different books and papers, on why different people/groups have fought through the years.

Beaucoup d’entre vous connaissent mon ami et collègue Eric Dupin, blogueur à succès. Blogueur ? Pas seulement ! Détrompe-toi petit panda. Car Eric Dupin à ses heures perdues est aussi autobiographe. Oui, non, pas biographe, autobiographe. Je ne voulais pas le révéler mais il a publié mon autobiographie sur son blog dernièrement, en modifiant un article du 1er avril 2008. Bon, d’accord, dit comme ça ça fait un peu vicieux.

Une nuit, comme ça, j’étais un peu énervé contre un petit jeune qui a bien réussi sa vie. Alors j’ai décidé de réécrire tout un billet que j’avais écrit à l’époque. Comme ça en douce. Personne ne verra rien et puis si quelqu’un remarque je dirais que c’est la faute au clavier de mon iPhone. Mes lecteurs acclameront, je me reverserai un petit verre de rouge. Je sourirai derrière mes deux écrans. Un petit air satisfait éclairera mon sombre visage.

With the culture wars at full tilt, it is somewhat surprising that expected voter turn out is forecasted as low as 35 percent. This is particularly troubling since Democrats only need to pick up six seats to gain a majority in the 100-seat Senate. They need only 15 seats out of the 435-seat House to achieve their first majority since being swept out of power in 1994.
To not vote is simply a vote for the opposition. As British statesman Edmund Burke once said, ''Evil flourishes when good men do nothing.''

A federal judge in Louisville, Kentucky, granted a temporary restraining order prohibiting a prayer from being said during graduation ceremonies at an area high school after a Muslim student on the planning committee objected and garnered the help of the American Civil Liberties Union.
