Streets were blocked by fallen trees, wrecked cars and rubble from damaged homes after the brief but fierce storm. The National Weather Service confirmed the twister winds were up to 135 mph.

Photos: Japan typhoon Man-yi

Typhoon Man-yi was later downgraded to a tropical storm with winds of 83km/h (51mph) as it passed south of Tokyo.
