The Superbowl is still more than a week away and there will be no playoff games on the tube this weekend. Going through football withdrawals? Then grab a beer, settle in the recliner and put in a football movie. That’s just what I did the other weekend. My husband was busy cheering his Chargers to a win (a lot of good it did them) over my Colts (I couldn’t watch. So I snuggled on the couch in the other room with a couple football movies. But not just any football movies, but those based on real stories.

Disney To Welcome Its First African-American Princess

Seventy years ago, Snow White made history for Walt Disney as the star of his first full-length film. In would be 12 years before another princess followed in her footsteps, but follow they would. Now in the 21st Century, Disney will release its first African-American princess in The Princess and the Frog.

Unless you’ve been asleep under a rock, you already know that the one of the hottest sequels of the summer (at least if you are a preteen) debuted on the Disney Channel this past Friday. Following in the footsteps of its successor High School Musical, High School Musical 2 is bound to meet the same success. However, if after watching the show, your child wants more, never fear. Disney announced Wednesday that it plans to ban all depictions of smoking in its family-oriented movies, according to Reuters. I think this move is a powerful one by a company whose name is synonymous with children.

End of Era for Disney's Buena Vista Label

n an effort to minimize marketing costs associated with its numerous brands, Disney will streamline many of its brand names to Disney, ABC or ESPN. Up next on the chopping block is the Buena Vista label which will be renamed simply to Disney. This change marks the end of an era, a 54-year old era.

Review: Meet the Robinsons

My children loved last year's Disney hit Cars, so we couldn't wait to see Meet The Robinsons. We'd been watching the trailers with the musical frogs and the dinosaur with "a big head and little arms" since the Superbowl. If you can make it through the rough, jerky beginning, the film proves itself to be a worthwhile watch with a few good messages for the children.
